Act of Kindness...Warm Someone's Soul.

Act of Kindess + Warm someone's Soul = RAOK

Have you ever seen someone walking along and suddenly their groceries fall out spilling all over the ground? What about as you drive by and see an elderly person seeming to be in such discomfort as they try to get to their destination. A new mother with her new born and a toddler and a primary school child all trying to reach objects that is within reach whilst the mother tries to complete her grocery shopping.

Now consider this.......When was the last time you...

* Took over a cooked meal to your neighbour
* Dropped off a bunch of flowers to someone to brighten their day
* Emailed a beautiful poem to someone
* Helped someone at the shops

Well Wednesday in Overall Being is going to be this. I live by the Quote: " What you give is what you get back" But thanks to a gorgeous dear friend whom I have been blessed in getting to know reminded me of this Tuesday night. She gave me this beautiful competition idea and I am so grateful for having such dear friends and family.

Until 5pm......I would like each and every one of you to do an Act of Kindness to someone. It can be as big or as little but it has to be something that you normally would not do.

Being able to bring love, joy and a smile to someone really does make a difference in people's lives. Being able to bring such a change can make such an impact that it can alter the whole equation sometimes.

Now I know I dont have to offer a prize as an incentive for this, cause really we all should be doing atleast one good thing every single day. But today I am.

The above photo is what one person will win by doing RAOK (Random Act Of Kindness). It consists of a hand sewn by me Minky Heat pack pouch, Scrabble Tile Pendant on silver necklace, Handmade ring, LR Hand Cream & a Mixed Crystal Bracelet with Reiki Blessings added to it.

Once you do your loving thing for the day (but it doesnt need to be "one" thing, you can do many if you want)....you must leave a comment under this blog post saying what you did and how it made you feel.

I will read these out to my children Wednesday Night and will let them help me choose who will be the winner.

The winner will be posted on this blog Thursday.

The Winner also will receive a Reiki Distant Healing session done by myself also.

To spread Love and bring Joy to others will bring it back to you ten fold. But doing good things without expecting anything back is the finest form of Love.

Now embrace and spread Joy to others :)

I am so excited about this competition and cannot wait to read what you all have done xo

Travelling and keeping sane at the same time.

A photo I took whilst visiting Bargara.

School holiday season is upon us and most usually travel. So I thought it was fitting to infuse some helpful ideas using the wonderful world of Aromatherapy. Many people complain of stress, fatigue and sickness during such travel. At times, something as minor as a car ride can make people feel queasy and drained.  A sniff of essential oils can make the whole experience of traveling brighter and more pleasurable.
If you have been a frequent traveller, you would probably be familiar with problems like:
  • Motion sickness
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Respiratory infections and allergies
  • Digestive troubles like flatulence, & constipation
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Fatigue and body ache
  • Sleep disturbances & changes.
Using aromatherapy allows us to handle these common travel problems by allowing ourselves to be more balanced from within. Essential oils when used individually or in combination with other oils can enhance immune functions, elevate the mood, support digestion and even calm down fussy kids!
Choose essential oils that are appropriate for your problems.  Below is a few of such that you should include in your natural travel kit and store inside your car travel bag and such:
  • Eucalyptus radiata oil has strong anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties. It is a great choice for travellers who feel drained and are prone to colds and infections. Carry a bottle with you and take a whiff every once in a while.
  • Tea tree oil, a potent antiseptic, makes for a great hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available. Rub a drop or two between your hands after using public washrooms or touching contaminated objects. It is also an effective remedy for insect bites. So pop a few drops on your socks if camping.
  • Ravensara oil is an ideal choice for relief against pain, muscle cramps and sprains. It also helps boost natural immunity. Use it in bath water .
  • Lavender oil is well known for its de-stressing and calming properties. It helps in regularizing sleep patterns and relaxes the mind. Lavender is also effective against colds and flu. Use it with a steam inhaler or put a few drops of it on a tissue and tuck it under your pillow. You may also apply an infused washcloth over your face to open up blocked sinuses. Even using a Lavender Pouch and laying it near you at bedtime.
  • Mandarin oil is a natural antiseptic, anti-spasmodic, digestive, antidepressant, sedative and nervous relaxant. It is a one-stop solution for people that are bogged down by nervousness and stress during travel. Its diuretic properties reduce bloating and water retention – a common complaint during travel. Inhale from a tissue that has been infused with a few drops of the oil.
  • Ginger oil is effective with  indigestion, vomiting, nausea and flatulence. It may be used in combination with massage oils or in a steam inhaler. This one is my favourite. I pop a drop of this into my car vaporiser (Available from Overall Being) to aid in car travel sickness.
Travelling with kids
It can be a challenge if children get cranky and irritable during a long journey and may even fall sick due to change in climate and physical stress. Heaven knows when we travel with our 4 children there is always something that occurs. Here are some essential oils that can help your kids overcome the stress of travelling:
  • Lavender Oil  has a calming effect on the mind and can aid a peaceful night’s sleep. Put two drops on a tissue and tuck it under pillow case.  For long flights, put a couple of drops on a tissue and have children smell from it. Why not order a Roll On Bottle from me. This is perfect for anyone anywhere to use at times of calmness or stress reduction.
  • Fennel Oil alleviates symptoms of stress and hyperactivity, it’s also a great home remedy for constipation and stomach upsets. Combine 3 drops of this oil with a teaspoon of olive oil / jojoba oil and apply to tummy with circular movements. You can also put a few drops of the oil in warm water, soak a hand towel and apply on the stomach.
  • Sweet Orange oil possesses natural uplifting, detoxifying and rejuvenating properties.

So as you can see there is some very natural ways of travelling this holiday season to combat all the nasties that sometimes come with it. Even just using Aromatherapy soaps, body washes, body creams and body spritzers all can help with your travels.

Safe holidays everyone!

Using Natural Therapies for Depression

In order to change something, don't struggle to change the existing model. Create a new model and make the old one obsolete.
--Buckminster Fuller

Depression is known as a mental health illness and with depression disorders, you can feel worthless, exhausted, helpless and hopeless. These negative thoughts and feelings make most people feel like giving up on themselves and their life. It is quite important to know that this is a normal and very common reaction to depression. However, there are some self help depression treatments that you can consider to help lift and do away with this mental illness. Winter time can bring what is known as Winter Blues Syndrome. With sudden change of weather that is usually gloomy, dark, raining and cold....inhibits sometimes us being able to sit outside and soak up the Vitamin D that is required for healthy mental health.

I thought I would focus on this topic for this week because of the state of my own mental health lately....not that I have depression (I have in the past though, so do know how this can feel) but because I have been (and still am) quite sick. Putting a stop to myself being out and about as much as I do normally with my youngest son whilst my other son's are at school. So grab a cuppa, sit down and relax. I hope you get something out of this article and tips. If you are someone who is suffering....please consider talking with someone, leaning on someone but most of all know there are people in your life that love you & cherish you.

Feeling depressed can drain you of your energy, making anything in your daily life seem quite difficult to cope with. Even though overcoming this mental illness is not easy, it can be done. There are several ways to beat this with some self help and even though it will take time and patience, it can be accomplished.

One of the first things you need to do is make a big change in your current lifestyle. Stop isolating yourself and begin to exercise each day(even if around the block for a walk). Start challenging those negative thoughts in your mind (use positive affirmations such as "I can", "I am able" or "I will"). Eat healthier foods and stay away from foods that are considered to be unhealthy, such as refined carbs(cut down on caffeine / alcohol as this changes your focus). You must dig deep inside of yourself and become as strong as you can (buy a gorgeous journal and jot down regular thoughts, make goals for yourself). Make some positive choices in your life for each new day and also get some support from others, like your family and friends (always believe in you...know there is others sometimes in your same predicament...YOU are not ALONE...there are people that love you....just reach out!).

Spend time to think about all the things you can do to help make yourself feel better and begin to build upon it. Consider taking a nice long walk or spending some quality time with family or friends. Start off slow and take it only one step at a time. You did not get depressed over night, so do not expect it to go away quickly. It will take some time, but with your inner strength and will power to survive, you will be able to win the battle against depression.

"Loving myself heals my life. I nourish my mind, body and soul"

Receiving lots of support is one thing that you need during this time in your life. You may feel some shame or exhaustion, but remember this is all a symptom of depression and as you begin to win the battle, these feelings will start to vanish. Do not stay alone even though at times that is the way you feel you want to be. I know it can be very normal and the easy way out. Instead try being around the ones who are closest to you, for this too may help to build up some strength in your mind.

There are some utterly devine Journals (some I sell which are Fair Trade) that you can buy and use to outline thoughts, goals etc. Plan out each day and be sure to have something to do or somewhere to go. You will be surprised to see how pushing yourself will make you feel better. The depression will not lift that quickly, but you certainly will feel it gradually decrease as time goes by and you will soon begin to feel more energetic and upbeat with a much more positive attitude.

Remember that depression can stand in your way of living a normal and happy life and stop you from doing everything that is positive, but never give up. "I choose love, joy and freedom, open my heart and allow wonderful things to flow into my life."  Continue to exercise each day, eat a good and healthy balanced diet and always keep in your mind that the trick to beating this illness is to replace all of the negative thoughts with much more balanced thoughts. Become emotionally intelligent, this way you can harness the all the powers of your thoughts and plant only good and positive feelings in your mind. Partaking in Alcoholic beverages and too much caffeine can alter this state of mind. Remember that depression is strong so it will take an even stronger means of inner power to conquer it. "My life is a joy filled with love, fun and friendship all I need do is stop all criticism, forgive, relax and be open."

Why not try some of the following treatments:

Relaxation Massage
Reiki Healing
Chakra Rebalance
Aromatherapy: Oil Blends to burn/vaporise within your home and car, Body lotions, Facial & Room Spray.

Depression can be triggered by stress, lack of exercise, chemical imbalance in the brain or a traumatic life event. Why not try the following natural Aromatherapy blends.

Essential Oils :

Jasmine, Lavender, Neroli

Suggestions for Use:

Add 10 drops of essential oil to the bath and soak for 15 minutes (or more if you can).
Add a few drops of essential oil to a carrier oil and use as a full body massage.
Use as an inhalation for burning or vaporisation.
Buy Floral waters or Linen waters in the above Oils and use as a facial Spritzer or Body Spray.

Meditation

Meditation is a wonderful relaxing way of calming your whole body, I have done previous blog entry on this so give one of those a try. Do this regularly. Make a time each day that way you wont go a day without it. Regular Meditation has been proven to help heal from in.

Positive Affirmations

By choosing to think and say positive affirmations as true, the subconscious is forced into one of two reactions - avoidance or reappraisal. Because affirmations actually reprogram your thought patterns, they change the way you think and feel about things, and because you have replaced dysfunctional beliefs with your own new positive beliefs, positive change comes easily and naturally. This will start to reflect in your external life, you will start to experience seismic changes for the better in many aspects of your life. I regularly tell my children "What you tell your brain is what your body will believe".

There are so many ways of doing affirmations:

Mirror
Cards
Sing / chant

Insight Into Me :) & Overall Being

I have had a few clients when emailing me asking where on earth I get my inspiration , energy from and just general questions about me and my background. So I thought I would do a blog post about this.

I do though have a About Me on my website for anyone wanting to have a little read further :)

So here we go.....grab a cuppa , settle back into your chosen seating decor and enjoy!

First up I want too start with this quote:

“There is no telling how many miles you will have to run while chasing a dream.” - Unknown This is SOOOO me....I cant tell you how many hours, how many hairs that have turned grey / fallen out over starting Overall Being many many years ago in 2003.

Overall Being has a lot to offer the shopper from home. It is an online business which offers Personalised and Unique Gifts, Massage and other interesting tips along the way.

Overall Being was very different back when it started in 2003. It was started as a business offering a range of alternative & conventional Massage treatments to clients in their own home. Being a mother I needed flexibility and the ease of promoting my business without too much time away from my family. Having this online allows me to work from home around such.

I have a thirst for natural therapies and alternative ways. Hence why I have so many various techniques that I can fall back on. I feel giving alittle of you to help others brings joy and hope for humanity as a whole. It creates fabulous good energy which is what Overall Being is.

My Logo is mainly of a Lotus Flower. I think its quite fitting for this business and me as the owner cause my belief hence why it was chosen. The Lotus Flower is one of the most ancient and deepest symbols of our planet. It grows in muddy water and rises above the surface to bloom with remarkable beauty. At night the flower closes and sinks underwater, at dawn it rises and opens again. Untouched by the impurity, lotus symbolises the purity of heart and mind. Which is how I came up with the name. It represents long life, health, honor and good luck. All of what I live by and what I try to bring into Overall Being to every customer that graces the front door. I treat each client as if it is my first and last.

I have studied quite a number of various techniques which allows me to offer many ways of treating oneself to my clients, family/friends. Being a mother now of four boys( Alexander 1996, Nicholas 1998, Samuel 2002, Jack 2008), I required a fair amount of flexibility and am terrific at multitasking. No job or order is too big, I love a challenge when someone comes and says do you or can you do this?!

Overall Being has been offering since 2003 various techniques of Reiki, Kundalini, Aromatherapy, Massage Parties, Crystal Therapy, Massage techniques and online Reiki Courses. Along with crystal jewellery. I also have been doing Home Massage Boutique parties, which is always such a hit!!

When I became pregnant with our fourth son, I decided to take some “Hands on” time off. Putting my massage on hold for a moment, so I could enjoy being a new mum. Life certainly is busy, but so rewarding at the same time. I suffered unfortunately bad PND after having Jack which lead me to delve back into meditation and therapy to help heal my soul whilst using conventional methods as well.

Since having this time off it made me think about other ways of bringing joy into my life. Which is how Overall Being has grown to where it is today , offering various other products which some I outsource to other work at home businesses or have become a proud stockist for or some I hand make myself. To have one place to visit on the web makes it extremely easy for people to help give memorable gifts to those they love.

I now offer personalised and customised photo gifts for anyone seeking something of difference.

The fabric I use to make my quillows, blankets, Hot pack/Lavender Bags or cushions is imported and has been described as having hugs all around you when snuggled into one. Available in this are: quillows, cushions, pet beds and blankets of all sizes using the same fabric. But using your own style in the chosen pattern fabric. There are quite alot of various colours, patterns available.

I am a proud stockist for the amazing ever-lovable Zoobies. A plush toy "slash" cushion "slash" blanket...All in one. Perfect to take to bed, trips in car or to the shops. They come in two different sizes.

I love natural products. Products that I know what is in it. Putting things onto my skin with chemicals just diminishes the beauty eventually. I offer a range of Aromatherapy products aswell such as Blends, Colognes, Perfumes, Soaps, & Candles. I am also a proud stockist of Fresh Faced Skincare & Mineral Makeup. Which is a 100% Australian owned and made Natural product. But also Gaia.....the name speaks for itself.

Which leads me to LR Health and Beauty. These products are all natural and made using the wonderful healing ingredient of Aloe Vera. I am a consultant of such.

Along with the above....there is also a range of jewellery which is all handmade. Using handmade Kaolin beads, crystals and such which has been sourced from overseas. With the Crystal Bracelets I can also add Reiki Healing into each piece as an added special touch for the giver.

Digital Scrapbooking is also available at Overall Being, whereby I use the clients photos to create a everlasting leather bound album, filled with memories. These albums are perfect for the coffee table or as a gift to someone. There is many different sizes available and also have created a Digital Scrapbook page and had it printed onto a Canvas to hang on the wall. They are quite stunning and highly unique. Even creating Invitations, Place cards, Thank you cards, etc...I also now have Photo Gifts / Canvases / Albums available. But if you after just a page....then that is do able as well. These being digital are easily sent via email too. So this way you can choose who you use for printing.

There is a Gift Ideas page on Overall Being which highlights suggestions for the shopper. To allow them to see what is available on a website as a quick guide makes the whole shopping experience and visit to me more memorable and unique.

That is where the versatility comes into it and allows me to offer clients to “create” their very own gift basket. Each Basket can be tailored to the individual and anything can be added to it.

Overall Being has been running like this for the past 12mths and will continue to do so. I think having somewhere like this on the web adds love and flexibility. In this era we all need this!

There is also a gorgeous way of celebrating time together as people. Overall Being offers a Massage Boutique experience in the comfort of your own home. Offering many complimentary services to the host and discounts for the attendees. Perfect for hens nights/afternoons, Girl get togethers, baby showers and such.

So as you can see Overall Being is exactly what the name says, incorporating Lifes pleasures into one spot.

"Life is not about the moments we breathe, but the moments that take our breath away"

So as you can see Overall Being is filled with many aspects for anyone any age. I do try to add Reiki to every piece before sending it as an added extra to the receiver.

I hope you have enjoyed this little insight into my world and always know I am available via email or phone.

Until my next blog.....enjoy every moment!

Today I am off to watch my second born son play school footy in their grand final...Yay go St James :))

Migraine Headache Massage Treatment~Compliments of OB

Well I don't know about you...But having a headache or a migraine can just be the pitts! I am lucky I dont suffer from them only when I am sick I do though. But I do treat a few clients who do suffer from these and they can certainly be quite stoppable if treated and checked on properly

So I thought I would share an article I wrote sharing some of my knowledge in the wonderful world of Massage and Trigger Point Therapy.

If you choose to share this please do so by using the right ways of sharing...not the way of copy and pasteing...cause that would sadden me.

Enjoy though and if you ever need anything please always know I am available via email anytime. Or visit my website for further details on Massage.

Kind Regards,
Massage, a common method of relieving migraine headaches, can be done by a professional - or you can do it yourself using this technique.

A light massage combined with migraine pressure points will give you the greatest relief. You need only a few simple points about how to massage a migraine headache.

Migraine Pressure Point Defined
It is important to learn the migraine pressure point or points that bring relief. A migraine pressure point is a point on your body that, when pressed, will lessen the pain in your head. Surprisingly, a migraine pressure point is not necessarily the point that hurts most.

A migraine pressure point may be pressed and released in slow, rhythmical fashion, and deliberately massaged to gain relief. This will release congested energy and blood from the head and ease your pain.

Migraine Pressure Point Technique

You will be treating each migraine pressure point with these simple steps.

* Use only the pads of your thumbs or first two fingers - never the ends.
* Keep the pressure light to moderate, depending on how sensitive the point is to your touch.
* Press hard enough so you can feel hardness or tension under your thumb or fingers.
* If a migraine pressure point hurts so much that you can't take a deep breath, apply less pressure on that point.
* Let your fingers sink into the migraine pressure point as you apply pressure gradually. Feel your thumb or finger going gently, gradually deeper and deeper.
* While your thumb or finger is as deep as you want to go, massage the point with tiny, circular movements of your finger.
* Keep your thumb or finger on the migraine pressure point until you feel a movement or change there. It may feel softer or warmer.
* Now slowly, gradually release the migraine pressure point until your thumb or finger leaves the skin.
* Repeat several times at same point.

Migraine Pressure Point Locations

Remember to be firm, but gentle. Insufficient pressure on a migraine pressure point will not be effective - too much pressure will create tension in your surrounding muscles.

Here are a few migraine pressure point locations to get you started. Start with the first, and work your way through each point, consciously relaxing as you do so.

1. Migraine Pressure Point at Base of Skull
Locate the bony base of your skull in back. Place your thumb pads under the skull's base, each thumb about 1 inch from your spinal column. Holding your thumbs against the two points, tilt your head back slightly. Now press upward gradually, counting to 10, and breathing deeply as you do so. When you reach the deepest point, massage with tiny, circular motions of the thumbs, still holding the pressure. When you feel a change in the point, slowly release the pressure, counting to 10 again. Repeat 5 times.

2. Migraine Pressure Point at Mid-Forehead
This migraine pressure point is located at the middle of your forehead, right between your eyebrows. Using the migraine pressure point technique described above, and your thumbs or one of the first two fingers, press inward gradually, counting to 10, and breathing deeply as you do so. When you reach the deepest point, massage with tiny, circular motions, still holding the pressure. As you feel a change in the point, slowly release the pressure, counting to 10 as you do so. Repeat 10 times.

3. Migraine Pressure Point at Eye Corners
Feel the face at the outer corners of your eyes. Move your fingers away from the eyes until you find the spots just behind the bone. Using the migraine pressure point technique and one or two finger pads, apply pressure gradually inward, counting to 10, and breathing deeply as you do so. When you reach the deepest point, massage with tiny, circular motions, still holding the pressure. As you feel a change in the point, slowly release the pressure, counting to 10 as you do so. Repeat 10 times.

4. Migraine Pressure Point on Hand
Surprisingly, you have a migraine pressure point on each hand. It's the fleshy part between your thumb and index finger. Using the thumb pad and index finger of your opposite hand, gradually squeeze the upper portion of this migraine pressure point, counting to 10 and breathing deeply. When you reach the deepest point, massage with tiny, circular motions, still holding the pressure. As you feel a change in the point, slowly release the pressure, counting to 10 as you do so. Repeat 10 times.

5. Migraine Pressure Point on Foot
The last point you will use to massage migraine headaches away is located on the top of each foot. Locate the place where the bones come together between your big toe and your second toe. With thumb or finger pads, press downward gradually, counting to 10, and breathing deeply as you do so. When you reach the deepest point, massage with tiny, circular motions, still holding the pressure. As you feel a change in the point, slowly release the pressure, counting to 10 again. Repeat 10 times.

Different bodies respond differently to pressure points. These should work for you.

NOTE: If you are on any medication please check with your GP if you are allowed to have Massages...Cause blood thinning medications you are NOT allowed too. This is information shared to help those manage themselves in the comfort of their own home.

Raja Yoga Meditation

raja yoga meditation

I use to go to regular Raja yoga sessions years ago and have found this sheet that this is printed out on, so thought I would share it. Sharing love and energy is a way of drawing it back. Namaste everyone. If you feel you need to share this please use the share link button located on this blog not copy and paste. Cause I have permission in sharing this.

Daily mental exercises. The act of Raja Yoga meditation for at least 15 minutes in the early morning will have a positive effect during the entire day.

Upon waking have the thought; I am a peaceful soul, my aim today is to radiate peace to every person that I come into contact with.

These meditations have been taken from the knowledge as taught by the Brahma Kumaris Raja Yoga meditation organization. The organization is unique because the main administrators are women.
Raja Yoga meditation

Try to experience the stillness of mind of being a peaceful soul as other thoughts emerge in the mind do not judge or focus on them but repeat ............

I am a peaceful soul .............

I am a peaceful soul ............

My mind is filled with peace ..............

I radiate peace to the world ...............

I feel the gentle waves of peace flowing across my mind ...........

As these peaceful thoughts emerge in my mind I feel the stillness and silence envelopes my mind .................

I am the peaceful soul ......

I am a peaceful loving soul ............

My mind feels light and free from worries ...........

I realize my real nature is peace ..........

Peaceful thoughts flow through the mind and I feel the self becoming light ......................

I am a being of light shining like a star .......................

I radiate peace and light to the world ......................

The light and peace envelopes me and the waves of peace and light shine like a lighthouse.............................................

This is the wonderful journey of self discovery.

Raja Yoga Meditation philosophy

The basis for attaining an experience in raja yoga meditation in to understand the self and the mind. The human mind is the most creative, powerful and wonderful "instrument" we possess. Using this energy called mind we have been able to search the deepest oceans, send humans to the moon and scan the molecular fabric of the building blocks of nature. But have we found our true self? We have become the most educated and civilized society in our history, but are we civil towards each other?

The soul has three main faculties; the mind or consciousness, the intellect and the subconscious.

Thoughts flow from the sub conscious mind to the conscious mind. Feelings and emotions form in accordance with the montage of thoughts flowing in the mind. Therefore our state of mind at any given moment is determined by the thoughts in our consciousness, and also with the feelings that we associate with those thoughts. Since our sub consciousness contains all our previous thoughts and experiences, it is necessary to selectively control the flow of thoughts that emerges from the sub conscious mind.

The intellect is the controller which is used to discriminate so that only positive and benevolent thoughts flow into our mind. With meditation or deep contemplation, the individual is able to strengthen and sharpen the intellect. The end result is a constant state of well being. If we are able to understand the self as the source of energy that creates our feelings, then the following will become our aims.

Become aware of our state of mind and of the thoughts that flows into the mind from our subconscious.
Strengthen the intellect so that the individual can discriminate and thereby only allow positive and peaceful thoughts to flow into the mind.
Through this process of self development the individual develops more control over the mind.

These meditations have been taken from the knowledge as taught by the Brahma Kumaris Raja Yoga meditation organization.

Beginner Meditations to try at home

I thought I would start the day with sharing some Meditation techniques that I use and work for me. I do further advanced ones now which I use before and during a Distant Reiki session.

When you are starting out with meditation, we are overwhelmed by the many choices and techniques we have available, and many times we end up doing the wrong thing, because we start with more advanced types for which we simply do not have the mental equipment yet.

Thus it is important for beginners in meditation to choose simple techniques whereby you minimize the changes of external diversion and maximize your focus on one single object. Later on, once you get used to the simple meditations, you can get more creative and attempt the wide variety of meditation types and techniques available to you.

Here are 3 of the most powerful beginner meditation techniques that you can learn and use right away:

Count your breath meditation

This is simply a meditation to focus on the rhythm of your breath by counting your in and out breath. It is very easy to do, and at first you mind will start wandering around. Do not worry about it, it is quite natural. Just gently acknowledge that and shift your mind back into counting your breath again. With time, your mind will slow down and will stop wandering by itself, without any external 'nudging'.

How to do it:

1. Sit down, close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing. Be aware of every breathing in and breathing out.

2. Do not try to control your breathing, or try to slow it down forcefully. Just breath automatically, freely and pay attention to the air passing through your nose, lungs and goes out again.

3. After a few breaths, start counting.

4. Breathing in, one.........breathing out ,two........breathing in, three........breathing out, four... breathing in, five..... breathing out, six

5. Should you find yourself thinking of something else instead of your breathing, just acknowledge it, and return to your breathing, and start counting again

6. Now notice the sensations of your breathing. The depth, the speed, see if your breathing becomes increasingly slower and quieter, if your breathing more and more goes to your stomach or your chest, if your body becomes more relaxed through your breathing, ...etc. Try to notice this as an outsider, without stopping from counting. If you cannot, then just go back to counting

7. Breathing in, breathing out, breathing in, breathing out, etc.

8. If at any time you notice any strange feelings in your body, like twinklings, or muscle reactions, just notice that, it is quite normal. Go back to your breathing

9. Once you got to 100, slowly return to normal, open your eyes, take in everything you see in the room, get up from the chair, stretch your muscles

10. You're done!

Flame meditation

This one is still one of my favourites. I love candles, so I am a bit partial to this :)

In this meditation, you will focus on a candle flame.

Turn off the lights, making sure that you still have some light entering the room, so you have the room in semi-dark. You will light a candle and position it at a level when you can look at the flame without any strains. Try not to think of the flame or the candle. Every time we wander away in our thoughts we return to the candle-flame without judging. Instead of a candle you can also choose an apple, a flower or any other object as your object of meditation.

How to do it:

1. Have the candle at eye level so you can see the flame easily

2. Sit down, close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing, just as in the first meditation technique mentioned above

3. Be aware of each breathing in and each breathing out.

4. After taking a few breaths, open your eyes and focus all your attention to the flame.

5. Breathe deeply and steadily and stare at the flame. Don't think of the candle, the flame, or anything else. If your mind wanders away, just return it gently to the flame.

6. Breathe deeply and steadily and stare at the flame.

7. Continue simply focusing on the candel for the period of time you had set apart for this meditation exercise.

8. You can now close your eyes and try to see the object at the inside of your eyelids.

9. Try to visualise the flame as long as you can, but don't strain yourself.

10. When the image disappears or you start thinking of other things, just try to get the image of your object projected in front of your eyes again.

11. When the time is up, just take back your thoughts slowly to the environment around you, open your eyes, stretch your legs, and just be aware of the here and the now.

12. You're done!

Relaxation using visualization

This is a simple Visualization that helps you to reduce tension and Stress, totally suitable for meditation newbies.

How to do it:

1. Sit down, close your eyes, and direct your attention to your breathing, just as in the first excercise.

2. Be aware of every breathing in and breathing out.

3. Let your breathing go on autopilot and do not try to steer it.

4. Observe how the air slowly goes in through your nose, fills up your lungs, and goes out again.

5. Now you are ready to start the Visualization.

6. With every breath, you start to feel the positive energy into your lungs.

7. When you breathe out, imagine all negative feelings escape from your body together with the air you breathe out.

8. When you are totally relaxed, choose an image, a situation, or an environment that means rest, peace, and calmness for you.

10. Walk around (in your imagination) and enjoy every moment in your favorite surroundings.

11. Try to involve all your senses. Smell, taste, look, and feel as many details as possible.

12. Focus on this image and hold it in your mind as firmly as possible.

13. Enjoy this image in all its details and pay attention to all the emotions that accompany it.

14. Feel the tingling in your body, feel your muscles relaxing, and notice your body reacting directly to everything that you created in your mind

15. Continue this Visualization for as long as you like.

16. Any time you are ready to stop, take your attention back to the rest of your body and become aware of yourself being in the room.

17. Open your eyes.

18. You're done!

Summary: You now have three powerful beginner meditations that you can employ at any time, each needing only a few minutes of your time per day.
Once you are familiar with these meditations, you are ready to try some more advanced meditation types

Media Release from Connect2Mums 2010 Awards

Media Release from Connect 2 Mums site...I thought I would do my bit in helping to promote this more to others who may follow my blog that havent as yet nominated their business or their favourite business.

Mumpreneurs – It’s Your Time to Shine

Imagine yourself as a magazine cover star, respected speaker and representative of a national organisation? This and many more accolades are what await the winners of Connect2Mum’s AusMumpreneur Awards.

The first Connect2Mums AusMumpreneur Catherine Oehlman is still basking in the glory of winning this award last year and encourages all Australian businesses to nominate for the awards – and not just mums in business.

Since being crowned (with a tiara) the 2009 AusMumpreneur, Cath has enjoyed stronger readership at http://squigglemum.com and increased attention from the media, making her a sought-after blogger and interviewee.

“Everything changed for me the night I won the Connect2Mums top award,” Cath explained.

“I stopped seeing myself as a teacher-turned-mum with a blog, and started seeing myself as a mumpreneur with an emerging business.

“It not only changed the way others saw me but also the way I saw myself,” she said, encouraging others to put themselves forward.

“Nominating yourself is about saying, ‘This is who I am, this is what I'm doing and this is why others should know about my business.’ I believe there are times to be humble, and there are times to stand up proudly. These awards are an opportunity to shine.”

So is 2010 your year to shine in business? The Connect2Mums AusMumpreneur Awards recognise the best and brightest in business.

Businesses throughout Australia are invited to nominate for the following categories:

  • AusMumpreneur of the Year
  • Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year

Businesses in Australia and New Zealand are invited to nominate for the following categories:

  • Product Innovation Award
  • Best Boutique/Store
  • Handmade Mumpreneur of the Year
